Arctic Monkeys kicked off their first headlining UK tour of 2006 in Nottingham last night (April 13).The tour has been one of the year’s hottest tickets, and the band will debut new tracks from their forthcoming EP ‘Who The Fuck Are Arctic Monkeys’ (out on April 24).

Scottish metalheads Mendeed have signed to Nuclear Blast. The band have also announced they’ll support Slayer on the UK/European ‘Unholy Alliance Tour’ at the end of the year.

Bloc Party have chosen a producer for their upcoming second album.Tentatively titled ‘Urbanite Relaxation’, the follow up to the critically acclaimed ‘Silent Alarm’, will be produced by former Compulsion guitarist now successful producer Jacknife Lee.

Mastodon have posted their version of Metallica’s ‘Orion’ at www.myspace.com/mastodon. This is the finished version, as compared to what is said to be the unmastered cut that appeared on the recent ‘Remastered’ album, the 20th anniversary tribute to the ‘Master Of Puppets’ record, put together by Kerrang! magazine.

Dallas band Fair To Midland have signed to Serjical Strike, the label run by Serj Tankian of System Of A Down. Tankian himself is expected to produce the band’s new album.
